On 20th June 2021, World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the Government of India, launched WHO mYoga – a Yoga app to help people stay active and healthy. The app is safe and secure, and does not collect any data from users. It is available for free download on Android devices, and Apple devices.
PM Modi announced ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’ as the theme for IDY 2025, emphasizing its holistic impact on well-being and sustainability. PM Modi urged people to integrate Yoga into their daily lives, highlighting its rising popularity worldwide.
The word ‘Yoga’ is derived from Sanskrit and it means to join or to unite, symbolising the union of body and consciousness !
The Sanskrit name ‘Surya’ here refers to the Sun and ‘Namaskar’ means salutations. Surya Namaskar has been handed down from the enlightened Sages of the Vedic age.
The Sun is the presiding Deity of the eyes. Practising Surya Namaskar facing the rising Sun strengthens the eyes, removes all sorts of eye defects, and you enjoy good eyesight even in old age.

The Government of India should take advantage of this awareness and promote Yoga as ‘Hindu Yoga’ to ensure it receives its rightful place !
