Washington (USA) – The US Department of Justice is set to seek from India the extradition of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is lodged in a prison in India. He has been in a prison in Gujarat since 2014. Charges have been framed against Bishnoi in connection with the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, along with several other offences.

A few days ago, under ‘Operation Hard Ball’, the US Department of Justice filed an indictment against 37 persons. In the joint operation carried out by law enforcement agencies from the USA, Canada and Europe, 24 persons associated with three Indian criminal gangs were arrested. Apart from Bishnoi and his associate Goldy Brar, the other gang leaders named in the US indictment include Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, who is lodged in a prison in Assam, and Ravinder Singh Dhanda, a resident of Canada. Bishnoi and Brar have been accused of ordering Nijjar’s murder. The USA has announced a reward of US $50,000 (₹47,66,525) for information about Brar’s whereabouts.
