Litigant throws documents before Supreme Court Bench !

Uses objectionable language against the Chief Justice !

Petitioner Prabal Pratap

New Delhi – A litigant named Prabal Pratap, who had appeared before the Supreme Court to argue his own case, argued with the judges, threw documents before the Bench, and used objectionable language against the Chief Justice. He was subsequently escorted out of the courtroom by security personnel.

Prabal Pratap had approached the Supreme Court seeking directions to register a criminal case against an Additional Commissioner of Police in Laxmanpuri (Lucknow), Uttar Pradesh. His case was being heard by a Bench comprising Justices K V Viswanathan and Alok Aradhe. During the hearing, he began speaking in a manner as though he were issuing directions to the Court, saying, “I order you.” Expressing surprise, Justice Viswanathan asked, “Are you ordering us ?” Prabal Pratap continued speaking and claimed that he was the supreme authority. He then suddenly threw the documents he was carrying before the Bench.

Supreme Court declines to take action !

In this case, Justice Viswanathan observed, “We will not initiate any action against him. As far as the merits of the case are concerned, we have examined the records. We find no valid ground to interfere with the impugned order. The Special Leave Petition is dismissed. Prabal Pratap appears to be deeply distressed. This appears to be an emotional outburst. We sympathise with him.”
