Need for Shri Mahadhanvantari Yajna in the present times and its benefits

During the Mahadhanvantari Yajna – 1. Gurumurti Shivacharya, 2. Shrisatshakti (Mrs) Binda Singbal,3. Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale, and 4. Shrichitshakti (Mrs) Anjali Gadgil

1. Objective of Shri Mahadhanvantari Yajna

The present times are extremely difficult for the world, these are adverse times. The threat of war looms large. In such times, the enemy may attack, not only with weapons, but also with pathogens (a bacterium, virus, or other micro-organism that can cause disease) created from modern technology. To face these unforeseen calamities, it is essential that everyone has good physical, mental, and spiritual strength. With the aim of ensuring everyone’s welfare, this Yajna is being performed. Its main objective is ‘Lokah Samastaha Sukhino Bhavantu’ – ‘May all beings be happy’.

2. Deity Dhanvantari, who received the knowledge of Ayurveda from Brahmadev

Deity Dhanvantari is one of the Divine jewels that emerged from the churning of the Ocean. He obtained the knowledge of Ayurveda from Brahmadev. In Hindu Dharma, Deity Dhanvantari is considered a form of Shri Vishnu, the Sustainer of the Universe. He is also called the Physician of the Deities. He is considered the originator of Ayurveda available on Earth. His form is similar to Shri Vishnu’s – four-armed, bearing a Shankh (Conch) and Chakra (Wheel) in the two upper hands, and a pot of nectar and a leech in His other hands. The Agni Puran mentions Guru Dhanvantari imparting the knowledge of Ayurveda to His disciple Sushrut.

3. Deity Dhanvantari creates medicines for every ailment that affects mankind

3A. Birth, death, old age and disease – the four inevitable states of the human body : God has given man a body made of Panchamahabhuta (The five Cosmic Principles). Birth, death, old age and disease are its inherent attributes. Everyone has birth and death, as well as ageing. Over time, the body loses its original form and man becomes old. According to the phases of the body, these four stages are unavoidable. Whether a king or a pauper, a wealthy man or a servant – almost everyone experiences disease.

3B. Deity Dhanvantari has exceptional importance in eliminating disease from human life : To treat ailments that afflict the human body, God has created medicinal elements. There is a remedy for every disease in God’s Creation; however, man does not have complete knowledge of all medicines. Over the ages, whenever new diseases have appeared, their remedies too have been made available on Earth by God. However, it takes man some time to discover them. Since man does not have knowledge of everything, he must seek the help of the all-knowing Deities. The elimination of disease is a necessity for every human being, and hence, Deity Dhanvantari has exceptional importance in everyone’s life.

4. Benefits of Shri Mahadhanvantari Yajna

4A. The resolve behind the Yajna is universal in scope, and hence, Deities are compelled to attend : When thousands of devotees and Vedic Brahmans come together to perform a Yajna, it becomes a Maha-Yajna. Therefore, the Dhanvantari Yajna being performed by thousands today is Shri Mahadhanvantari Yajna. Its resolve is not limited to one individual or the family level, but is universal. When many people unite on Earth to fulfil a universal resolve, the Deities are compelled to attend.

4B. Through the grace of Deity Dhanvantari, man can attain knowledge of disease-curing plants : The only Deity who can reveal to the world in which of these forms of the plant – seed, grass, wood, flower, tree, fruit, plant, root, leaf, stem, sap, resin and fragrance – lies the cure for disease. The types and subtypes of cancer continue to grow over time. In this phase of Kaliyug, it is crucial that appropriate medicines for such diseases are found.

4C. When God is invoked with bhav, He will stand before us with a pot of nectar : When devotees pray with bhav (Spiritual emotion), God will rush to them. Collective prayer has more power than individual prayer. If God is invoked today with bhav by so many people collectively, He will indeed appear before us holding a pot of nectar. The world will experience this in the times to come.
