Bus conductor asks Karnataka minister to get off the bus for not paying exact change

Karnataka Transport Minister travels in a bus for surprise inspection

Bengaluru (Karnataka) – Karnataka Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh travelled in a BMTC bus on the Hebbal to Nagashettyhalli route on the night of July 11th. He boarded the bus and asked the conductor for 2 tickets. The minister gave the bus conductor a note of Rs 100 for the ticket, but the conductor demanded exact change. When the minister said that he did not have change, the conductor rudely asked him to get off the bus. Since the minister was wearing a mask, the driver and conductor could not recognize him. The minister calmly got off the bus without any argument; however, taking serious note of the inconvenience caused to the passengers, action was taken against the driver and conductor later. (How many such bus drivers and conductors will the action be taken against? – Editor).

During a period of 2 hours, Minister Suresh travelled in more than 10 government buses. As an ordinary passenger, he bought tickets, interacted with fellow passengers and got feedback from people about the bus service.

A passenger in a BMTC bus signaled to stop the bus at a certain place, but the bus driver did not stop. Seeing this negligence, the minister immediately suspended the driver and conductor of this bus.

A rickshaw driver demanded extra fare, Minister warned

A rickshaw driver was demanding Rs 36 when the fare on the meter was Rs 30. When the minister asked about this, the driver replied carelessly that he would get the meter fixed later. The minister scolded the rickshaw driver and warned him. (It is a well-known fact that most rickshaw drivers commit such frauds, but no government is taking any concrete action – Editor).

Editorial Perspective

Bus conductors not having change is a problem faced by passengers across the country. Yet, the reality is that no government or concerned department ever tries to find a solution to this.
