Muslims will face no threat in a Hindu Rashtra if they accept the traditions of their ancestors: Yogrishi Ramdev Baba

  • Yogrishi Ramdev Baba appeals to Muslims

  • Muslim religious leaders, political leaders and organisations oppose the statement

New Delhi – “Some people ask, ‘If India becomes a Hindu Rashtra, where will Muslims go?’ I tell them that Muslims should embrace the traditions of their ancestors. After all, one who cannot remain true to his own father (ancestors) cannot remain true to anyone. Listen to your ancestors and sages. Keep a beard, trim your moustache, wear any cap, tie any turban, wear any clothes you like, but let your character be like that of your ancestors. Muslims will face no threat in India,” Yogrishi Ramdev Baba said while addressing a programme at the University of Delhi.

Our ancestors were all Sanatani Hindus

Ramdev Baba further said, “Near our place in Haridwar, there is the Deoband madarasa. I was invited there in 2009. I told them, ‘Brother, our religions may be different, but our ancestors are the same.’ When we entered through the main gate, it was written there—and it is written here too—that no one needs to fear the concept of a Hindu Rashtra. Our ancestors were all Sanatani Hindus.”

India is not a Hindu Rashtra: Naseem Siddiqui

National spokesperson of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), Naseem Siddiqui, said, “I strongly condemn this statement. First of all, India is not a Hindu Rashtra. India is a secular nation based on the principle of equal respect for all religions. Everyone has complete freedom to follow their religious traditions. Such statements pose a serious threat to the unity and integrity of the country.”

Perhaps Ramdev Baba himself is afraid: Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind

Maulana Siraj Khan, President of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, said, “Who is afraid? Who is feeling threatened? Perhaps Ramdev Baba himself is afraid. This country will function according to the Constitution. (If tomorrow the Constitution is democratically amended and ‘Hindu Rashtra’ is written into it, will these very Muslims abide by it? So far, they have taken the liberty of doing whatever they wish in the name of the Constitution. Why do they never speak out against the atrocities committed by Muslims on minorities in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh? – Editor) No one has the right to speak against it. In the first place, who is he to make such statements? There is no question of taking his remarks seriously.”

We have always opposed discrimination based on religion: Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahli

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – Eidgah Imam Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahli said, “Muslims never waver or live in fear because they pray to Allah. In fact, all human beings have the same ancestors. We have always opposed discrimination on the basis of religion. Muslims are deeply distressed and pained by the demolition of mosques and the abolition of the Madarasa Board in Uttarakhand.” (Why should Muslims feel distressed when illegal structures are demolished? Do they not believe in the Constitution? – Editor)

Our ideology is what the Constitution says: Congress leader Salman Khurshid

Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid said, “If everyone was originally a Sanatani, then why are attempts being made to create such divisions? I do not agree with any ideology other than that of the Congress Party. Our ideology is what the Constitution says. We have faith in it, and the entire country has faith in it; it encompasses the beliefs of all people.” (Hypocritical Muslims who support the Constitution only when it suits them! – Editor)

Editorial Perspective

  • India was partitioned on the basis of religion, and Pakistan was created as demanded by the Muslims. The remaining part was a Hindu Rashtra. The Congress technically made it a secular nation, but Muslims should realise that in the coming years it will officially become a Hindu Rashtra!
  • History records that the Hindu ancestors of today's Muslims accepted Islam out of fear, and most Muslims are aware of this. In such circumstances, they should now reflect on how many more years they intend to continue bearing the burden of this religious subjugation and remain backward.
