US retaliates after Iran targets American bases in Bahrain and Jordan

Tehran (Iran) – Two UAE oil tankers came under Iranian missile attack near Oman’s waters in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the UAE Ministry of Defence. One Indian crew member was killed, and seven others were injured in the attack on the vessels, Mombasa and Al Bahia. Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for missile and drone attacks on the Al Jufair military base and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. It also claimed to have fired ballistic missiles targeting US forces and key military installations at an air base in Jordan. The US Central Command said it struck military bases in Bushehr, Chabahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa and Bandar Abbas during its operation against Iran. More than 50,000 US troops are currently stationed across the Gulf region.

UAE condemns Iranian attacks

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) strongly condemned Iran’s attacks, calling them a blatant violation of international law and a threat to regional security. The UAE also said it reserves the right to respond to the escalating attacks.

India summons Iranian officials

India’s Ministry of External Affairs summoned an Iranian diplomat after an Indian crew member was killed in the attack. It sought an explanation from the Iranian Embassy and conveyed its deep concern over the incident.

Trump announces a 20% toll on cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would remain open, with the United States assuming responsibility for its security. Describing himself as the “Guardian of the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump announced a 20% toll on all cargo passing through the strategic waterway to help cover the cost of safeguarding it. He said restrictions on Iranian vessels and their customers would remain in place, while ships from all other countries would be allowed to pass through the Strait without hindrance. Trump added that work on implementing the new system would begin immediately.

Iran vows to retain control of the Strait of Hormuz

Iran strongly condemned President Donald Trump’s announcement. A spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters of the Iranian Armed Forces said any US intervention in the Strait of Hormuz was unacceptable. The spokesperson said that Iran has the right to secure and manage the strategic waterway and would take all necessary measures to defend it. ‘We will maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz and will not bow to US interference or pressure’, the spokesperson said.
