A Jharkhand gram panchayat fines Rs 1 lakh and releases accused who sexually assaulted a 3-year-old

Outrageous decision of a gram panchayat in Jharkhand

Ranchi (Jharkhand) – After a 3-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Gumla district, instead of handing over the accused to the Police, the village panchayat tried to settle the matter by collecting a fine of Rs 1 lakh from him. Allegedly, some of this money was spent on liquor and chicken party. The Police have arrested the accused after receiving information about the incident.

1. Accused Sunil Lohra reached the victim’s house around 4 p.m. At that time, the girl was with her mother. Saying that he would take care of the girl until the household chores were completed, the accused took the girl into a room.

2. Sometime later, her mother reached the spot after hearing the girl crying. The girl was seriously injured. After suspecting sexual assault, the woman screamed and informed the family.

3. After this, some villagers put pressure on the victim’s family to settle the matter. A meeting of the gram panchayat was called in this regard.

4. In this meeting, it was decided to impose a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the accused. The accused paid Rs 20,000 to the gram panchayat and said that he would pay the remaining Rs 80,000 in a week.

5. The gram panchayat spent some of this money on alcohol and chicken party. After learning about this, a wave of anger erupted among the villagers.

6. A person from the village brought the entire incident to the notice of the local Police. The Police immediately rushed to the village and registered a complaint filed by victim’s mother. Based on her statement, a case has been registered against accused Sunil Lohra and he has been arrested. The Police are conducting further investigation in this matter.
