Muslim couple arrested for holding Hindu woman hostage and converting her at gunpoint

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – An incident has come to light in Moradabad where a Hindu woman was called to a house, held hostage, threatened with a pistol, forcibly converted to Islam and made to recite the Kalma (Islamic declaration praising Allah). In this case, the Police have arrested the main accused, Sultan Salauddin, and his wife, Mehnam Begum, and sent them to jail. A Maulvi (an Islamic religious leader) and two other accused involved in the case are currently absconding, and a search is underway to trace them.

1. The victim has been living separately from her husband, and around three years ago she became acquainted with Mehnam Begum. After the two became friends, the accused hatched a conspiracy. On 6th February 2026, Mehnam Begum gained the woman’s trust and took her to her house. Her husband, Sultan Salauddin, a Maulvi and two other persons were already present there.

2. It is alleged that the woman was held hostage, forcibly converted to Islam at gunpoint, and made by the Maulvi to recite the Kalma. Thereafter, Salauddin pressured her to enter into a nikah (Islamic marriage) with him; however, the marriage could not take place because she resisted. It is also alleged that during the period she was held hostage, Salauddin molested and sexually harassed her.

3. The victim somehow managed to escape from the accused. However, when they recently encountered her on the road, they threatened to kill her. She subsequently lodged a complaint at the Police station.

Editorial Perspective

It is only because fanatical Muslims no longer have any fear of the law that they openly dare to convert Hindus. This is a matter of shame for the Government, the Police and the administration.
