Had earlier converted to Christianity

Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh) – The Police have arrested the father of a Police Sub-Inspector who was converting Hindus by luring them with jobs and money. The arrested person has been identified as Prempal Yadav (51), a resident of Bhudasi village in Sheeshgarh. Six Christian religious books, including a Bible, a handwritten notebook and a mobile phone have been seized from him. It has also come to light that Prempal Yadav himself had converted to Christianity a few years ago and had now become associated with a gang involved in converting Hindus.

1. The conversion incident took place on 9 July in Saijna village in the Bareilly region. In this case, Ankit, a resident of the village, lodged a complaint with the Police. According to the complaint, Prempal had organised a prayer meeting at the house of a person named Gajendra in Bhudasi village.
2. At the prayer meeting, Hindus were being encouraged to embrace Christianity. Those present were given Christian religious literature and lured with promises of jobs and money. During the meeting, Prempal also made objectionable remarks against Hindu Dharma.
3. After registering a case against Prempal, the Mirganj Police began investigating the matter. On 10 July, the Police received intelligence that the accused was preparing to flee. Acting on this information, the Police team laid a cordon beneath the bridge in front of the Nagariya Sadat railway crossing and arrested the accused.
4. During interrogation, the accused reportedly said, “I regret my actions. I made a mistake,” the Police stated.
