On Akshayya Trutiya, perform sadhana and experience God’s Chaitanya

Why is the entire day of Akshayya Trutiya considered auspicious ?

Akshayya Trutiya marks the end of Satyayug and the beginning of Tretayug. The Hindu Scriptures consider the day that marks the end of one Yug (Era) and the beginning of another as crucial. It marks the end of Kalahakal (Time of churning) of one Yug and the commencement of the Satyayug of the next Yug. Since this day separates the Satyayug from the Kalahakal, the entire day of Akshayya Trutiya is considered a muhurt (Auspicious time).

Even though this muhurt lasts a few moments, one can experience its effect for 24 hours. Hence, the entire day of Akshayya Trutiya becomes auspicious and is considered one of the 3 ½ muhurts.

On this auspicious tithi, Hayagreeva, Parashuram incarnated, and Nara-Narayana manifested on Earth. These significant events help us understand the importance of Akshayya Trutiya or Vaishakha Shukla Trutiya (The third day of the bright fortnight of the Hindu lunar month of Vaishakha as per tithi).

Which Vrats (Vowed religious observances) are observed on the day of Akshayya Trutiya ?

1. Pitrutarpan (Offering specific objects [such as sesame seeds, water, etc.] to ancestors), Ashwattha Pradakshina (Circumambulation of the peepal or Ficus religiosa tree), fasting the entire day, and Ayachit vrats (Observances emphasizing a desireless and spontaneous acceptance).

2. Vasantpujan : The vrat of Vasantpujan (Ritualistic worship of Deity Saraswati in the Spring season) is observed with gandha (Sandalwood paste), flower garland, aam panna (A special drink made of unripe mangoes), and bananas.

3. Parashurampujan : Shri Parashuram incarnated on Earth on the third day of the bright fortnight of the Hindu lunar month of Vaishakha. The prime weapons wielded by Dasharathi Ram was Chapban (Crossbow and arrows), Shrikrushna had Sudarshan Chakra, Bhim had Gada (Mace), Balram had hal (Plough). Similarly, the prime weapon wielded by Shri Parashuram, the son of Sage Jamadagni, was Parashu (named Vidyudabhi, a special axe). On Akshayya Trutiya, during the pradosh period (The period of 72 minutes [or 3 ghatikas] before sunset on the 13th day of the bright and dark fortnight of every Hindu lunar month), one should ritualistically worship Shri Parashuram and offer Arghya (A ritual of offering oblation of water to God).

Importance of Akshayya Trutiya tithi (lunar day according to the Hindu Almanac)

1. The tithis in the Hindu Almanac generally rise or fall, however, Akshayya Trutiya is an exception, it’s a constant tithi (meaning, it neither rises nor falls) that never diminishes. Hence, Akshayya Trutiya is considered favourable for all auspicious and virtuous deeds.

2. This tithi is particularly auspicious for marriages. Hence, mass-marriages are arranged on this day.

3. The acts performed on Akshayya Trutiya remain Akshayya (Imperishable) and grow with time. Hence, people buy precious metals such as gold & silver and commence new business ventures to reap its everlasting benefits.

Akshayya Trutiya grants imperishable and everlasting benefits for noble deeds performed on this day

“अस्यां तिथौ क्षयमुर्पति हुतं न दत्तं।

तेनाक्षयेति कथिता मुनिभिस्तृतीया ।।

उद्दिष्य दैवतपितृन्क्रियते मनुष्यैः।

तत् च अक्षयं भवति भारत सर्वमेव ।। – मदनरत्न”

Meaning : (Shrikrushna says) O’ Yudhishtir ! The offerings made and the oblations offered in a havan (Sacrificial fire) on this day never go in vain. Hence, Sages have imparted the name ‘Akshayya’ Trutiya to this day. Everything done on this day for the sake of Deities and ancestors becomes ‘Akshayya’, meaning, imperishable.

On Akshayya Trutiya, the Principles of Brahma and Shri Vishnu jointly descend onto the Earth, which enhances the sattvikata (Spiritual purity) of the Earth by 10%. – God (Through the medium of Ms Madhura Bhosale [She is at the spiritual level of 65%])

Spiritual experiences on Akshayya Trutiya

On the day of Akshayya Trutiya, even after the ghee in the niranjan kept in Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale’s room got over, it remained lit for more than an hour : On the auspicious day of Akshayya Trutiya (on 7.5.2019), I was fortunate to have an opportunity to perform puja (Ritualistic worship of Idols and Images) in Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale’s room. The niranjan (A five-petalled metal lamp-dish with an attached conical stand to be set before an Idol) I lit at the beginning of the puja remained lit for nearly two and a half hours.

Usually, it lasts only one and a half hours. However, on that day, Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale showed me that the niranjan remained lit for an additional hour despite the fact that the ghee had got over.

When a rite was performed as prescribed in the Scriptures in a bhav (Spiritual emotion) enriched manner, the black covering around the body reduced

I made all the necessary preparations for the rites on the day of Akshayya Trutiya. I prayed to all the substances to be used before commencing the rites. Once the rites were completed, I felt as if the black covering around my body reduced by a foot, and I felt light. Thus, I learnt that when one performs any action in a bhav-enriched manner, one often gets spiritual experiences.

Subtle Note

Seeing, hearing in the subtle, etc. (Receiving knowledge through the five subtle sense organs) : The subtle vision of some seekers is awakened; meaning, they can perceive what the physical eyes cannot see; some seekers can hear sounds or words in the subtle..

Bhav : ‘Where there is bhav (Spiritual emotion), there is God’. It is not that every individual will have similar experiences.
