906 cattle rescued during Bakri Eid period in Malegaon; cases registered against 257 cattle smugglers

Malegaon (Nashik) – To prevent the cattle slaughter in the name of Bakri Eid, the police in Malegaon carried out strict enforcement of the State’s cow slaughter prohibition law. Cattle concealed in houses, powerloom factories, narrow lanes, and among bushes were rescued. Police also uncovered illegal transportation in which cattle were cruelly crammed into expensive vehicles and prevented the slaughter of 906 cattle.

Police conducted a total of 155 enforcement operations across the Malegaon division. Cases were registered against 257 cattle smugglers under the amended cow slaughter prohibition law. A special “Go Squad” was deployed, and checkpoints were established throughout the area.

During the operation, the police rescued a total of 906 cattle and seized 110 vehicles.

Editorial Perspective

Only strict punishments such as life imprisonment would create a genuine deterrent against such offenders. The Police should make efforts towards ensuring such stringent action.
