  • Wipro management protects female employee Shaheena Rafiq, accused of pressuring her to convert

Pune (Maharashtra) – After the shocking incident reported at TCS in Nashik and the ‘love jihad’ case involving a State Bank of India employee in Mumbai, a serious case of ‘corporate jihad’ and religious harassment has now emerged from the well-known IT company Wipro in Pune. A complaint has been lodged at the Hinjawadi Police Station in connection with the matter. The Hindu woman involved in the case personally attended a press conference organised by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and spoke publicly about her experience.

HJS condemned the incident and demanded that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis intervene immediately, order a high-level investigation, and ensure strict legal action against those found responsible. The demand was made by Mr Sunil Ghanwat, State Organiser of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti for Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, along with the victim.

The press conference was held at Shramik Patrakar Bhavan in Pune and was attended by the victim (a former Wipro employee), Mr Parag Gokhale, Pune District Coordinator of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, advocates Vivek Bhosale and Gopal Telang of the Rashtrabhakt Advocate Committee, and Ms Kranti Petkar of the Ranragini branch.

What is the case?

While working at Wipro, the victim was subjected to intense mental pressure to accept Islam and establish a physical relationship with a Muslim man. When she firmly refused these demands and complained to the company management, the management took no action against the accused and instead terminated her employment.

Safety of Hindu women in the corporate sector and transparency of company management under scrutiny! – Victim

The victim said that while she was carrying out her duties sincerely at Wipro, a female colleague named Shaheena Rafiq began excessively interfering in her personal life. Shaheena repeatedly urged her to enter into a physical relationship with a Muslim man named Sheikh and to abandon Hinduism and convert to Islam. She was also tempted with promises that if she accepted Islam and lived with a Muslim man, she could enjoy a comfortable and peaceful life in Dubai. Troubled by the constant religious and mental harassment, the victim stopped speaking with Shaheena except for work-related communication.

According to the victim, she formally reported the matter to senior company officials. However, the Wipro administration took no disciplinary or preventive action against Shaheena Rafiq. Instead, Shaheena filed a retaliatory complaint using secretly recorded and selectively presented audio conversations. The victim further said that senior officials openly supported Shaheena, refused to take action against her, and that Wipro’s Human Resources department and management committee ignored the victim’s complaint and evidence while taking one-sided action against her.

Resignation submitted from the victim’s laptop without her consent

The victim alleged that at the end of August 2025, an HR representative, Prashant G.R., invited her to a Microsoft Teams meeting. During the meeting, he used technical means to take control of her laptop screen and compelled her to submit a resignation without prior notice and without her consent.

Forcing an employee to resign is a direct violation of labour laws: Advocate Vivek Bhosale

Advocate Vivek Bhosale said that obtaining a resignation without prior notice, denying the employee an opportunity to present her side, and bypassing the principles of natural justice constitute a direct violation of Indian labour and employment laws.

Legal notice sent to Wipro seeking ₹50 lakh compensation

The victim has sent a legal notice to Wipro through her advocates. The principal demands include:

1. Compensation of ₹50 lakh for severe mental distress and damage to her social reputation.

2. Immediate cancellation of the resignation obtained under pressure, because it is legally invalid.

3. Reinstatement with full salary continuity and service benefits.

4. A formal written apology from the company and strict action against Shaheena Rafiq and any officials who supported her.

Victim warns of legal proceedings if action is not taken within 15 days

The victim has warned that if appropriate steps are not taken within 15 days, she will initiate civil, criminal, and labour court proceedings against Wipro. She answered journalists’ questions with confidence and determination, although she became emotional at certain moments during the interaction.

Anti-Hindu agenda in Pune’s IT sector will not be tolerated: Hindu Janajagruti Samiti

The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti stated that it stands firmly with the victim and will support her efforts to obtain justice. According to HJS, the incident is part of a planned ‘corporate jihad’. It described the suppression of the religious and personal freedom of Hindu women by individuals in influential corporate positions as deeply concerning. HJS further stated that this may not be an isolated incident and that similar cases may exist elsewhere. It urged the government to conduct a wider investigation into whether such incidents are occurring in other major companies. HJS also appealed to any Hindu woman facing religious harassment, pressure to convert, or similar discrimination to contact Hindu Janajagruti Samiti on +91 77382 33333.

Editorial Perspective

  • Repeated allegations of ‘corporate jihad’ suggest that regardless of educational attainment or employment in reputed organisations, Muslims may still harbour intentions of encouraging religious conversion. The government should consider stronger measures to address such incidents.
  • Wipro is the third company in which allegations of ‘corporate jihad’ have surfaced. The question arises whether these incidents represent only a small tip of an iceberg.
  • Wipro Chairman Azim Premji and his son Rishad Premji are among the world's most prominent Muslim business figures and long been publicly associated with a secular and professional corporate image. In light of the allegations made in this case, it is important to examine the facts thoroughly and transparently to ensure a safe and non-discriminatory workplace environment for all the Hindu employees.
