Vandalism of the Indian Embassy in Melbourne (Australia) by Unknown Individuals

Offensive slogans written on the entrance gate

Melbourne (Australia) – The Indian Embassy here was vandalized by unknown individuals at midnight on April 10. Offensive slogans were written on the wall of the main entrance. Following this incident, the Indian High Commission in Canberra raised the issue with Australian authorities. This is not the first such attack on the embassy.

“If anyone has any information, please come forward” – Police

No arrests have been made in this case yet. A police spokesperson mentioned that they have urged the public to come forward if anyone has any information regarding the incident. (Australian police have been deliberately ignoring such incidents. In previous cases of attacks on Hindu temples, no action has been taken by the police. “Necessary steps are being taken to ensure the security of the embassy” – Indian High Commission

Regarding the incident, the Indian High Commission posted on ‘X’ stating that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of the Indian Ambassador, the Consulate General of India, and the buildings and staff in Australia.

“An attempt to intimidate us” – Indians in Australia

Indian nationals in Australia stated that these are not just markings on the walls, but an attempt to intimidate Indians.

Attacks on Hindu temples have also occurred

In 2023, several incidents of vandalism were reported at Hindu temples in Australia. The walls of the Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Brisbane were vandalized, and pro-Khalistan slogans were written on the temple walls. Earlier, an attack on a Hindu temple in Melbourne also saw pro-Khalistan slogans being painted on the temple walls.

Editorial Perspective

It appears that the vandalism was carried out by pro-Khalistan supporters, as similar incidents have occurred previously. This is a consequence of the Australian government’s failure to take strict action against pro-Khalistan elements.
