The Girnar Datta Temple in Junagadh District of Gujarat is located on the top of Girnar mountain. Deity Dattatreya performed severe penance on Girnar mountain for twelve thousand years. He then attained Supreme Knowledge by remaining in the presence of Nature and completely merging into spiritual practice.

Deity Dattatreya attained the Supreme Truth by performing spiritual practice of yoga, meditation and penance. Animals, birds and wild animals would come close to Him and remain calm during His penance.

Deity Dattatreya spiritual practice shows the non-duality between Nature and humans. Often the foes in the mind such as desire, lust, anger and ego tried to interrupt Deity Dattatreya’s penance. However, with the strength of His spiritual practice, He conquered all these enemies in the mind and created an ideal for devotees.

He showed the path to attain Moksha (Final Liberation) to the Sages, Ascetics, and devotees who came to Him. While performing penance, Deity Dattatreya imparted the Divine Knowledge He learned from the 24 Gurus in Nature, to the people. His experiences conveyed the message of learning from everything and everyone in life. Even today, Girnar mountain is a symbol of penance, meditation and attainment of Moksha for thousands of devotees.

2. The reason for the different readings in the Table

Some Sadgurus, Saints and seekers of Sanatan obtain knowledge from the subtle dimension. The proportion of vibrations in the picture based on subtle knowledge depends on factors such as the seeker’s spiritual level, specific time, ability to perceive the subtle dimension, etc. The seeker, Saint and Sadguru have an increasing ability to perceive the subtle dimension in ascending order. 2. Other points perceived about the Girnar Datta Temple

A. The temple of Deity Dattatreya has made the Girnar mountain Sattvik (Spiritually pure) as He performed penance here; therefore, this mountain considers itself very fortunate.

B. Many, many years ago, various Deities along with Deity Dattatreya also existed on this mountain. They all would be in communion with each other.

C. Deity Dattatreya attained Divine Knowledge while on the Girnar mountain.

D. A Saint with a high spiritual level lived on this mountain and performed rigorous penance. As a result, he merged with Deity Dattatreya and attained Moksha. How does chanting the Name of Datta protect against the distress caused by unsatisfied ancestor souls ?

Name of Shri Datta emits Divinity : The Divine Energy generated from chanting the Name of Shri Datta creates a protective sheath around the individual chanting His Name.

Maya and Spirituality : Most individuals are entangled in Maya (Material world) primarily because they do not perform spiritual practice. Consequently, their subtle body (linga deha) remains unsatisfied after death. These unsatisfied subtle bodies are stuck in Martyalok (The Region of the Dead which is located between Earth and Nether region).

Momentum to the unsatisfied ancestor souls : Chanting Shri Datta’s Name gives momentum to the unsatisfied ancestor souls stuck in Martyalok. As they move on to the next subtle regions according to their karma (actions that give rise to destiny), the amount of distress caused by them to their descendant naturally decreases.

How to resolve distress : For this reason, one must chant 1 to 3 malas (rosary or chant -beads) of Deity Datta’s Name, or more, depending on the severity of distress as follows.

If there is no distress of any kind, chant ‘Shri Gurudev Datta.’ for 1 to 2 hours daily as a preventive measure so that no distress arises in future. If there is mild distress, the same daily chanting of ‘Shri Gurudev Datta.’ for 1 to 2 hours should be done.

In case of moderate distress, chant the Kuladevata’s Name along with ‘Shri Gurudev Datta.’ for 2 to 4 hours daily. Additionally, visit a Datta temple on Thursdays, circumambulate the temple seven times, and sit and chant one or two malas for at least a year. Thereafter, continue chanting three malas regularly.

In case of severe distress, chant the Kuladevata’s Name along with ‘Shri Gurudev Datta.’ for 4 to 6 hours daily.

Visit a Jyotirlinga pilgrimage centre and perform rituals such as Narayanbali, Nagbali, Tripindi Shraddha, and Kalasarpa Shanti. Alongside this, stay at a Datta pilgrimage centre and perform spiritual practice, or render service to a Saint to obtain Their blessings.
