New York (USA) – A major controversy has arisen over a statement by the Indian-origin Republican Party leader Vivek Ramaswamy, who had briefly contested for the post of President of the USA last year. During one of his programmes, he compared the Hindu concept of polytheism with the Christian concept of the Holy Trinity. Because of this, he faced opposition from radical Christians in the USA. Nalin, the son of Indian-origin politician Nikki Haley, said, “This statement is an insult to the Christian faith.”
This incident took place in Montana during Charlie Kirk’s ‘Turning Point USA’ event. On social media, some people are calling Vivek Ramaswamy a symbol of Hindu pride, while others are opposing him. Devout Hindu organisations in the USA have openly expressed their support for Ramaswamy.
What did Ramaswamy say ?
At the ‘Turning Point USA’ event, a young man asked Ramaswamy, “How can Hindu polytheistic values align with Conservative values ?” Ramaswamy calmly replied, “I am not a Pastor from Ohio; I have come to serve as a Governor. My Hindu Dharma is not an obstacle to my politics. Hindu Dharma teaches moral monotheism, meaning, there is one Supreme Truth, one God. However, Christianity believes in the triad of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; yet, that does not mean they believe in many Gods. Similarly, in Hindu Dharma too, there are many forms of the one Supreme God.”

Suhag Shukla, Director of the Hindu American Foundation, clarified that Vivek Ramaswamy had not made any direct comparison. He had merely stated that the one Supreme God can manifest in various forms.
