Muhammad Yunus Govt removes chapter on India’s contribution to Bangladesh’s independence from curriculum

Bangladesh’ hatred towards India

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Following the overthrow of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Government in Bangladesh, the interim Government led by Muhammad Yunus has begun revising the country’s curriculum. As per the directive of the Yunus Government, the National Curriculum and Textbook Board of Bangladesh has trimmed the content related to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the 2025 academic year’s school syllabus. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the founder and first President of Bangladesh. Additionally, the chapter on ‘India’s Contribution to Bangladesh’s Independence’ has been removed from the syllabus.

1. The textbook will now include references to several political figures such as former Muslim League leader Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, former Chief Minister of undivided Bengal and former Prime Minister of Pakistan, the anti-Hindu Huseyn Suhrawardy, former Muslim League leader and Prime Minister of East Pakistan Abul Kasem Fazlul Huq, as well as Khaleda Zia and her husband, former President Ziaur Rahman, who were political rivals of Sheikh Hasina.

2. The phrase ‘Mujib means freedom’ has been removed from fourth-grade Bengali textbooks.

3. Previously, textbooks credited Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with making the first declaration of independence on 26th March 1971; however, the revised textbooks now attribute this to Ziaur Rahman.

4. The Bangladesh Government has completely removed Sheikh Hasina’s name from all textbooks. In previous editions, the last page of the textbooks carried a traditional message from Sheikh Hasina addressed to students, which has now been removed.

5. A committee of 57 experts appointed by the Bangladesh Ministry of Education has prepared this revised curriculum.

India’s name omitted as the first country to recognise Bangladesh’s independence !

India’s name, which was originally mentioned as the first country to recognise Bangladesh’s independence, has been removed from the new textbook editions. Instead, the name has been replaced with Bhutan. The revised editions now state that on 3rdDecember 1971, Bhutan was the first country to recognise Bangladesh’s independence.

Editorial Perspective

Why does the Indian Government continue to maintain ties with Bangladesh when it consistently disrespects India ? Bangladesh has a history of persecuting Hindus and insulting India, and yet India continues to tolerate it silently. This is an affront to India’s national pride !
