India had objected

Beijing (China) – The construction of a dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) river in Tibet will not affect the flow of water from India or Bangladesh to the Janasharya river. On the contrary, the project will help to avert disasters to some extent. China’s project will help balance climate change in low-lying areas, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Yaqun. The Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson had raised objections to the dam in a press conference on January 3. India had said that ‘building a dam on the Brahmaputra could harm Indian states’.
China is spending an estimated $137 billion (Rs 12 lakh crore) on this dam. China wants to generate 300 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year from here.
The northeastern states of India are already facing frequent flooding problems. They may face more challenges like landslides, earthquakes and floods due to climate change. That is why the construction of this dam has increased India’s concerns.
