Hindu Janajagruti Samiti files police complaint against the play – ‘Sangeet Vastraharan’
Mumbai – The Pandavas of Mahabharat, whom Indian society idolises for many qualities like obedience, bravery, devotion, righteousness, truthfulness, etc., have been portrayed in perverted manner and thereby disrespected in the play ‘Sangeet Vastraharan’. In all artforms, e.g. Indian Cinema, theatre, Tamasha (folk dance), Keertan (devotional songs about God), the ideal of Pandavas has been placed before Indian society while referring to Mahabharat. Art advances culture; however, play – ‘Sangeet Vastraharan’ has distorted the Indian culture. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on August 17 demanded a permanent ban on the play ‘Sangeet Vastraharan’ in a complaint filed at Vashi police station, Navi Mumbai. Mr Vasant Sanas of The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Mr Vijay Bhor of Sanatan Sanstha and other religious leaders were present at this occasion.

On August 15, at 4.30 pm at Dinanath Mangeshkar Theatre in Vile Parle, Mumbai, the play ‘Sangeet Vastraharan’ was performed. In addition, the play will be enacted at various places in Mumbai. In Konkan, naman mandals or natya mandals (theatre group) perform Dashavatar. Similarly, ‘Sangeet Vastraharan’ has deliberately mocked Pandavas. In a statement, HJS said that, immorality is on the rise in the society and with that if, even personalities who are role models in our culture are mocked, it will accelerate the moral degradation.
Objectionable parts of the play- ‘Sangeet Vastraharan’ !
Arjun –The character playing Arjun is shown inebriated (drunk / drunken) and making indecent moves. Arjun is shown kicking Bhim, entering the stage with vulgar pelvic thrusts (Thumaka), getting intoxicated with alcohol and collapsing on the stage.
Vidur – Vidur is known as a wise personality in the Mahabharat. The Emperor of Hastinapur and Pitamah Bhishma himself used to consult Vidur from time to time. Vidur’s devotion to Krushna was of the highest level. Such a personality of Vidur is shown coming to the stage huffing and puffing a beedi, as well as Vidur and Yudhishthir are shown dancing on the stage with a women performing a tamasha.
Bhishma – Pitamah Bhishma is an elderly, austere and knowledgeable personality in the Mahabharat who was treated with utmost respect even by Shrikrushna. Bhishma, who is considered at the forefront of the brave and mighty men of India, is shown dancing to the tune of a very vulgar song on the stage, as well as making vulgar antics on the stage.
Yudhishthir – The eldest of the Pandavas and the epitome of truthfulness, Yudhishthir is shown calling Vidur like a dog. Also, Shakuni is shown cursing Yudhishthir.
Draupadi – Draupadi is shown offering her saree to Kauravas and Pandavas asking them to strip her clothes. Draupadi is shown swirling to a very vulgar song in front of Vidur and Yudhishthir.
Other offensive incidents!Kauravas, Pandavas and Draupadi are shown dancing to hindi film songs. Deity Indra is called ‘God of Kamathipura’. Pandavas are shown swearing verbal abuses. When a village satrap comes to watch the play, Shri Ganesh is ridiculed by referring to satrap as ‘Ganpati has fallen asleep.’ Many people dare to mock such Deities because they are not afraid of the law. The perverted depiction of Pandavas hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus and is damaging to culture. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has demanded that the government should immediately ban the play and take strict action against those who insult Hindu religion, scriptures, deities, saints and national heroes. |
Editorial PerspectiveAs Hindus lack religious pride, anyone dares to mock the faith of Hindus. Instead of opposing such plays, they watch them, enjoy and applaud them, which is a shame for them ! Will God protect them in Adverse Times ? No one ever dares to perform such a vile play pertaining to faith of Islam or Christianity. So the awakened Hindus should raise their voices till such dramas are scrapped and the responsible Anti-Hindus are put behind the bars ! |
