Tokyo (Japan) – Japan was hit by an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale on January 1st. The Tremors were felt in and around Ishikawa in western Japan. The Japanese Meteorological Department has issued a tsunami alert along the coasts of Niigata, Toyama, Yamagata, Fukui and Hyogo. Along with this, the Japanese government has also appealed to its citizens to leave coastal areas and take shelter on top of buildings or high places.
In March 2011, there was a devastating earthquake in Japan. 16000 citizens lost their lives in the tsunami that followed. The sea had sent out waves that were more than 10 Metres in height.
