Kabul (Afghanistan) – On 7th September, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), an organisation of Islamic countries, urged the Taliban to ensure education for Afghan women and said that education is an Islamic obligation for both men and women, reports The Khaama Press News Agency. The OIC’s press release emphasised the consensus among Islamic scholars on the obligation of educating both women and men, with a focus on comprehensive efforts to empower and educate girls and boys in the country.

The Taliban Government of Afghanistan told the delegation of the OIC – ‘Our society also needs women to be educated. We are working on this issue, but any decision will be taken only after analysing the situation. So be patient’. Currently, this delegation is on a tour of Afghanistan. As Afghanistan is a member of the OIC, the latter has pressed the Taliban Government to start providing education to women. So far, no agreement has been reached between the Taliban Government and the OIC delegation in this matter. This delegation consists of several religious leaders.

Afghan female students criticise the Taliban Government

Afghanistan’s female students have rejected the Taliban Government’s statement. They asked how much more patience we should show ? We are tired of such restrictions. All institutions providing education to girls have been closed for almost 2 years. When we spoke to the Taliban Government about this, they promised to open schools and colleges soon, but till date it has not happened.

Editorial Viewpoint

The world wonders which Islamic rule is being run by the Taliban that it does not even listen to the Organisation of Islamic Countries ! It shouldn’t be inappropriate if someone demands that OIC should not recognise the Taliban Government.
