Alberta Province in Canada wants to become independent !

Those demanding a separate country have collected 300,000 signatures

Ottawa (Canada) – In Canada, pro-Khalistan Sikhs have often tried to hold referendums to declare Punjab in India an independent “Khalistan” nation. Now, within Canada itself, the demand to turn the western province of Alberta into a separate country has intensified. Separatist groups claim that they have gained enough support for a referendum on independence to be held. They have reportedly submitted around 300,000 signatures to election officials, while only 178,000 signatures were required. However, this process has currently been halted due to a court order. If the vote goes in Alberta’s favour, the province could separate from Canada and become an independent country.

About 5 million people live in Alberta, and for a long time the province has considered itself distinct from the rest of Canada. Alberta is rich in oil and gas resources. Approximately 84% of Canada’s total oil production comes from there. People in Alberta believe that they earn more, but the benefits mainly go to the rest of Canada. Their complaint is that tax money is spent in Ottawa, while their opinions are given very little importance in decision-making. They feel that their culture, economy, and politics are different, yet decisions are made sitting in Ottawa.
