Hanuman remains behind the scenes during the Dharmayuddhas of various Eras, and yet, protects Dharma !

1. Protecting the Vanar army in the Dharmayuddha between Shriram and Ravan in the Tretayug

In the Dharmayuddha (Struggle for reinstating Dharma) that took place in Sri Lanka during the Tretayug, extremely powerful demon warriors in Ravan’s army such as Atikaya, Narantaka, Devantaka, Prahasta, Indrajit, launched numerous destructive and life-threatening weapons at the Vanar army and at the warriors of Dharma, such as Sugreev, Angad, Bibhishan, Lakshman. However, Hanuman took all these weapons upon Himself before they could reach the Vanar army and the warriors, and neutralised them.

2. Protecting the Pandavs from the Kauravs in the Mahabharat war in Dwaparyug

Before the Dharmayuddha of the Mahabharat, Shrikrushna asked Hanuman  to remain present in the subtle form on Arjun’s chariot. Accordingly, Hanuman  established Himself on Arjun’s Kapidhwaj (Flag bearing the symbol of a Vanar). During the Dharmayuddha of the Mahabharat, great warriors such as Bhishmacharya, Dronacharya, Karna and Ashwatthama released life-threatening and destructive Divine weapons at Arjun. However, due to the grace of Shrikrushna, none of them affected Arjun. Hanuman , present in the subtle form on the chariot, restrained those Divine weapons for some time.

After the 18-day Mahabharat war, when Shrikrushna and Arjun got down from the chariot, and when on Shrikrushna’s command, Hanuman  (present in the subtle form) dismounted from the chariot and manifested before Arjun, Hanuman  released the Divine weapons He had restrained. As a result, Arjun’s chariot exploded and burnt to ashes.

B. Sant Tulsidas : Sant Tulsidas too worshipped Hanuman . Owing to Hanuman ’s grace, Sant Tulsidas had the physical darshan of Prabhu Shriram, Lakshman and Mother Seeta three times. Some scholars in Kashi opposed Sant Tulsidas. To destroy him, they sent a kritya (an Aghori [A sect that worships Deity Shiva] negative energy) with the help of a Tantrik (One who appeases negative energies as part of his spiritual practice); however, due to Hanuman ’s grace, Sant Tulsidas was protected.

C. National Saint Vidyaranya Swami : National Saint Vidyaranya Swami, who moulded Emperors Harihara Raya I and Bukka Raya I, has also sung the glory of Hanuman  and described the greatness of His Panchmukhi form (that has 5 powerful Divine faces).
