Panaji, Goa – Just as Astrology can guide individuals on education, profession, marriage, progeny and other worldly matters, it can also provide guidance for one’s spiritual growth based on the Birth Chart, said Jyotish Visharad Raj Karve of the Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay. He was speaking at the ‘Jaysingrao Chavan 11th International Astrology Convention’ held in Panaji on 31st October and 1st November. He presented his research paper titled ‘Birth Chart – A Guide depicting the Journey of the Soul’ under the mentorship of Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale.

The convention was inaugurated by Goa’s Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant. More than 300 astrology scholars and enthusiasts attended the event. Members of the research team from Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay – Mr Sean Clarke, Mrs Shweta Clarke, Ms Milky Agrawal, and Mr Satyakam Kanglekar were present. Several researchers presented their papers at the conference.

Key points presented by Mr Raj Karve ( from Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay)

1. Education, profession, marriage and children are related to an individual’s worldly life. However, questions such as ‘What is the true purpose of my life ?’, ‘What is my prescribed duty ?’, ‘What are my fundamental  capabilities ?’, ‘Which Path (of spiritual practice) will lead to my spiritual evolution ?’ belong to one’s inner (Spiritual) life. Since Astrology is a science connected to human life, it can guide not only on the worldly dimension of life but the spiritual dimension too.

2. In indicating a person’s spiritual capacity and Path, planetary conjunctions and yogas (Special planetary combinations that influence a person’s destiny) in the Birth Chart are of utmost importance. If the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Rahu form mutual yogas, the individual is inclined toward seeking happiness from external, material experiences. Conversely, if these planets form yogas with the Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Ketu, Uranus, or Neptune, the individual is inspired to seek inner Bliss, knowledge of Truth, peace, and works for the welfare of society.

3. The spiritual Path an individual is predisposed to follow can be understood from the yogas in the Birth Chart. Moon-Venus-Jupiter combinations indicate Bhaktiyoga (Path of Devotion). Sun-Jupiter-Mercury-Uranus combinations indicate Jnanyoga (Path of Knowledge). Sun-Mars-Jupiter-Saturn combinations indicate Karmayoga (Path of Action). Since every Birth Chart is unique, each person’s nature and Path of spiritual practice is unique and can be understood through the Birth Chart.

4. Spiritual progress brings expansiveness, which leads to Jnan (Knowledge), Anand (Bliss) and Shanti (Peace). Many individuals have favourable planetary yogas for spiritual evolution, meaning, they have the inherent capacity for spiritual growth; yet, they remain unaware of it. Therefore, astrologers must guide people not only regarding their worldly concerns but also their spiritual upliftment.

Between October 2016 and October 2025 the Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay (MAV) has presented research papers in 121 scientific conferences (20 National and 101 International). Among these, the MAV has received  Best Presentation awards at 14 International conferences.
