Afghanistan must not be allowed to become a safe haven for terrorist groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed

India raises its concern at the United Nations

P. Harish, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN

New York (USA) – India firmly stated that, despite the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, terrorist organizations should not be permitted to operate freely there. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, P. Harish, told the Security Council that India is closely monitoring the security situation in Afghanistan and emphasized that the global community must unite to fight terrorism. He further added that relying solely on strict measures will not be sufficient; steps encouraging positive behavior are equally necessary.

UN Special Representative Roza Otunbayeva also acknowledged that the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan is a serious concern. Although incidents of violence have somewhat decreased, the Taliban’s takeover in 2021 has changed the situation. However, most countries and the UN itself have still not formally recognized the Taliban regime.
