Conversion and Sexual Exploitation of Girls at ‘James English School’ in Bihar

Sasaram (Bihar) – A case of forced religious conversion and sexual exploitation of girls has come to light at ‘James English School’ located in Sikaria village, Indrapuri, Bihar. The district Child Welfare Committee’s investigation revealed that these incidents were occurring both at James English School and the affiliated ‘James Tailoring Institute.’

1. The Rohtas District Child Welfare Committee recently inspected the school. The report has been sent to the Union Home Secretary, the District Magistrate, and other officials,recommending a high-level investigation into the matter.

2. A minor girl from Gaya district was reported missing by her mother at the Indrapuri police station on 30 August. Subsequently, the Child Welfare Committee inspected the school on 8 September 2025. When committee officials reached the ‘James Tailoring Institute,’ they found 7–8 girls being taught sewing. Seeing one girl crying, they inquired further. Upon counselling, the girl revealed that she had been raped by four individuals. After a medical examination, she was sent to a child care home.

3. On 9 September 2025, under the supervision of committee member Gayatri Kumari, the District Child Protection Department, with police protection, rescued a total of 7 girls from the premises. All of them have been sent to a child care home.

4. The committee’s report also recorded the statements of the girls, which revealed cases related to forced religious conversion.

5. The Superintendent of Police of Sasaram, Raushan Kumar, stated that an investigation committee will be formed at the district administration level, and further action will be taken once the report is submitted.

Such schools should be derecognized and their guilty officials should be sentenced to life imprisonment.
