Mangaluru (Karnataka) – Police have registered a case against the office bearers of the Punjalakatta Public Ganesh Festival Committee for allegedly violating rules by using loudspeakers.
On the occasion of Shri Ganesh Chaturthi, the workers of the Punjalakatta Public Ganesh Festival Committee continued their program around 10:45 PM using loudspeakers. On receiving information, the sub-inspector of Punjalakatta police station instructed the workers to follow noise pollution regulations and to switch off the loudspeakers. The workers complied with the order.
Later, when the loudspeakers were used again, committee president Kaushik Shetty and office bearers Punit Madantyaru, Taranath Kajakkalu, and Guru Madantyaru argued with the police.
The district superintendent of police informed that a case has been registered against the organisers for violating the conditions of the written permission and for obstructing police work.
Editorial PerspectiveFor 365 days a year, mosques violate noise pollution laws by using loudspeakers five times a day. Have these dutiful police officers ever gone there, even for a single day, to take action ? And if by mistake they did, have they ever dared to register a case in this way ? |
