Eliminate personality defects, negligence and confusion for rapid spiritual progress

‘साध्यति निष्पादयति कार्यमिति इति साधकः |’ Meaning : One who continuously performs actions (sadhana [Spiritual practice]) till the desired objective (spiritual progress) is attained is a seeker. The main obstacles in becoming a true seeker are personality defects, negligence and confusion.

Shrisatshakti (Mrs) Binda Singbal

1. Personality defects : Due to many personality defects such as laziness, the result of sadhana (its pace and fruit) reduces. Therefore, it is important for seekers to implement the personality defect removal process. Through this process, the obstacle of personality defects can be eliminated.

2. Negligence : This refers to improper conduct committed either intentionally or unintentionally. According to the law of karma, one has to undergo the consequences of every act; therefore, every negligence consumes the fruit of a seeker’s sadhana. As a result, the expected spiritual progress does not take place.

The effects of negligence can be remedied through acts such as atonement; hence, a seeker should take atonement for every negligent act.

3. Confusion : From a seeker’s perspective, the greatest obstacle is confusion ! Confusion is a negative mental state created by the seeker himself. It primarily has three aspects :

A. Delusion (considering falsehood to be truth),

B. Conflict (remaining in an undecided state such as whether something is right or wrong), and

C. Doubts (having negative thoughts about the Guru and sadhana).

We can overcome personality defects and negligence through our own sincere efforts; however, to overcome confusion, the Guru’s guidance or grace is essential. Seeking guidance from Saints, who are the forms of the Guru, is the best way to overcome confusion.

On this Guru Purnima, let us make a firm resolve to eliminate the obstacles of personality defects, negligence and confusion within us, so that rapid spiritual progress can take place !

This is how all the Gurus are the same !

All Gurus are the same internally, though externally their appearance may differ. Just as the milk oozing from any udder of a cow is equally pure, there is only one Guru Principle in all Gurus and the waves of Anand (Bliss) emanating from all are the same. Just as sea waves advance towards the shore, the waves of God emanate through the Guru in society. The taste of water in all the sea waves is the same. Similarly, the Principle in all the Gurus is the same. If a water tank has many outlets, whether small or large, the same water flows out from all of them. However varied the shapes of light bulbs may be, when electricity flows through them, only light is emitted from them. In the same way, though Gurus differ in physical appearance, the Guru Principle, that is, the God Principle in them is the same.
