Supreme Court Refuses to Lift the Stay on the Release of ‘Udaipur Files’ Movie

New Delhi – The Supreme Court has refused to lift the stay on the release of Vijay Raj’s film ‘Udaipur Files’. The Court has postponed the hearing of the case until July 21, which means the film will not be released at least until that date.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court instructed the filmmakers to wait for the decision of the Union Government regarding the matter.

The Court also directed the committee formed by the Union Government, which is currently reviewing objections against the film, to make a decision on the matter urgently. It further clarified that the committee must also hear the statements of the accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case.

During the hearing, the bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice J.B. Pardiwala stated that if the release of the film damages the reputation of the accused in the Kanhaiya Lal case, such harm cannot be undone; however, financial losses to the filmmakers can be compensated.

The filmmakers argued that they hold an official certification from the Censor Board and hence the Court should not intervene in the release. Representing the accused, senior advocate Kapil Sibal argued that the film is a serious example of hate being spread against a specific community and therefore should not be released.
