Dublin (Ireland) – Remains of 796 dead bodies of infants were found in the septic tank of ‘Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home’ run by the Church of Ireland. Now, after 11 years, excavation of this septic tank has been undertaken. As reported by ‘New York Post’, children were killed and buried in this Home. With the excavation of this very powerful Church of Ireland, more wrong deeds are going to be unearthed.
1. ‘Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home’ was started by the Church of Ireland for the unwed mothers. The babies born to unwed girls working as nuns used to be thrown in this septic tank. This inhumane act was carried on for 36 years from 1925 to 1961. This horrible massacre was exposed by historian Catherine Corless to the world.
2. Unwed pregnant women used to be sent to ‘Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home’ for delivery to protect the image of the catholic Christian sect. They were made to work for one year without any salary and kept under house arrest. These women used to give birth at this Home. The new born babies used to be immediately separated from their mothers. Other nuns used to take care of the babies till they were adopted. The mothers were not informed about the details as to who adopted their babies or when they were adopted, etc. The mothers were then made to work as prostitutes.
3. This Home was demolished in 1971 and the organisation which ran the Home was decertified in 1972.
4. In 2014, the wrong deeds at the Church of Ireland were exposed. Later, the Government officially apologised. In 2022, Ireland Parliament passed a law to start excavation at the site. Now, the excavation work is going to be resumed and it is believed that the remains of more such infants are still buried under the land of ‘Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home’. The excavation is to be carried out for further investigations.
