Religious fanatic Muslims attack India’s victory procession in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, after winning ICC Champions Trophy tournament final
Mhow (MP) – Following India’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy tournament final on the night of 9th March, celebrations took place across the country. In many places, people carried out bike rallies. A similar rally was carried out in Mhow city of Indore District in Madhya Pradesh. However, as soon as the rally reached near the Jama Masjid, religious fanatic Muslims started pelting stones at it. This led to chaos among the Hindus participating in the procession. Muslims caught and beat Hindus, vandalised motorcycles, and set them on fire. Hindu shops were also torched, and stones were pelted at Hindu homes. Petrol bombs were hurled, and one house was burnt down. The rioting Muslims were shouting slogans of ‘Hindustan Murdabad’ (Death to India). They also taunted Hindus, saying, ‘Why doesn’t your Ram come to protect you ? Call him now’.
1. The incident occurred around 10 pm on 9th March. After India’s victory, over 100 youths took out a procession on motorcycles carrying the Indian flag. They were chanting slogans like ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ (Victory to Mother India) and ‘Jai Shriram’ (Hail Lord Ram). When the procession reached near Jama Masjid, firecrackers were burst, leading to an altercation with members of the Muslim community. A mob of Muslims caught some people from the procession and assaulted them. Subsequently, the violence spread to areas like Patti Bazar, Sabzi Market, and Ghaffar Hotel.
2. To control the situation, the Police resorted to lathi charge. Later, a large number of Police forces from Indore rural and urban areas were deployed in the region, along with military forces. Three people were injured in the incident, and 13 individuals have been arrested. Indore District Magistrate Asheesh Singh announced that action under the National Security Act would be taken against the accused.
3. District Magistrate Asheesh Singh said that the situation is now under control, and security forces have been deployed. He assured that the cause of the incident would be investigated later, but for now, the situation is stable.

Police arrive after 1.5 hours
A Hindu woman affected by the violence said that the rioting continued for nearly 1.5 hours. Stones were being pelted, petrol bombs and burning cloth balls were being thrown at houses, vandalism was rampant, and attempts were being made to break into houses. However, the Police did not arrive at the scene during this entire time.
