In many districts of Uttar Pradesh, the Azaan is being given from mosques without loudspeakers during Ramzan

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – In some districts of Uttar Pradesh, during the ongoing period of Ramzan, the Azaan is being given from mosques without the use of loudspeakers. The Yogi Adityanath government has implemented a policy regarding loudspeakers at religious places. As a result, action is being taken against religious sites that exceed the permitted sound limits or violate regulations by using loudspeakers. In this situation, the practice of giving the Azaan through loudspeakers has stopped in districts such as Sambhal, Bareilly, Moradabad, and others. Police have taken action and seized loudspeakers from several mosques. Consequently, the Azaan is now being called out orally by imams from the rooftops of mosques.

AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, All India Muslim Unity Association) has written a letter to district authorities. It has demanded permission to use loudspeakers for just 2 minutes in the evening during Iftar (the time when Muslims break their fast during Ramzan) to make announcements.

The mosque’s maulvi (Islamic religious leader) has claimed that if permission for loudspeakers is not granted, cymbals will be used to call people for Sehri (the pre-dawn meal before beginning the fast during Ramzan).

The Superintendent of Police in Sambhal has stated that Muslims should follow the government’s instructions and organize Sehri and Iftar during Ramzan accordingly.

Editorial Perspective

If this is possible in Uttar Pradesh, why isn’t it happening across the entire country ? With the BJP in power at the Centre and in 18 states, Hindus feel this should not be difficult.
