Islamabad, Pakistan – Jaish-e-Mohammed chief and wanted terrorist Masood Azhar, accused in several terrorist attacks in India, has resurfaced after 20 years. Addressing members of Jaish-e-Mohammed, Azhar issued a fresh warning of launching a jihad campaign against India and Israel during a recent speech in Pakistan.
According to reports, Azhar called on leaders of terrorist organizations to participate in jihad to establish Islamic rule globally. During his speech, he repeatedly shouted, “India, your death is near.”
In 2022, Pakistan’s then-Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto claimed that Masood Azhar had fled to Afghanistan. Azhar was the mastermind behind the 2001 terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament. Though he was jailed in Pakistan, he was never prosecuted. In 2016, Pakistani officials described his detention as “protective custody.”
