Paris (France) – Egyptian wrestler Mohamed Elsayed was arrested by French Police following allegations of engaging in obscene behaviour with a woman at a local cafe. Reports suggest that he was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
The 26-year-old Mohamed Elsayed is a well-known name in the wrestling world. At the Paris Olympics, Elsayed faced defeat in the quarterfinals of the 67 kg Greco-Roman wrestling competition. He had also been selected as the best wrestler under 23 by the United World Wrestling Association. Elsayed won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Stand taken by Egyptian Olympic Committee
The Egyptian Olympic Committee has announced that Elsayed will face disciplinary action. According to the committee, if the charges are proven, he could face severe consequences, including a lifetime ban from the sport.
Editorial PerspectiveIt wouldn’t be surprising if someone connects this incident with the wrestler’s religion and the issue of violence against women. |
