New Delhi – ‘In the last 5 years, 633 Indian students have died in 41 countries of the world. Of these, 172 students have died in Canada alone, while 108 have died in the US, 58 in Britain, 57 in Australia, 37 in Russia and 24 in Germany. Apart from this, an Indian student died in Pakistan as well,’ informed the Union Government in the Parliament. Kerala MP Kodikunnil Suresh asked a question in this regard.

Out of the total 633 students who died, 19 students died in violent incidents. Of these, Canada had the highest number of student deaths at 9, followed by the US at 6, and in Australia, Britain, China and Kyrgyzstan at least one student each dies due to violent incidents, the Government said.

The number of Indian students currently studying abroad

According to the data provided by the Government of India, the total number of students studying in various educational institutions abroad in the year 2024 is 13 lakh 35 thousand. Most of these i.e., 4 lakh 27 thousand students, are studying in Canada, while 3 lakh 37 thousand are studying in the US, 1 lakh 85 thousand in Britain, 1 lakh 22 thousand in Australia, 43 thousand in Germany, 25 thousand in the UAE, and 24 thousand 940 students are studying in Russia.
