Pune Municipality’s infuriating decision on the occasion of Ganesh festival

Pune – The Pune Municipality this year has forbidden the immersion of Shri Ganesh Idols in the river. As alternative to Idol immersion, they have decided to increase the number of tanks for immersion, centres for idol donation and gathering of used puja flowers. The Municipality is promoting a drive for creating awareness in more and more people for using these water tanks for immersion and donating the idols. (It is only during the Hindu festivals these type of decisions that hurt Hindu sentiments are taken, this is infuriating – Editor)

The municipality had made available to the public 359 iron tanks during in 2022 Ganesh festival. There will be an increase of about 252% so this number will now be 568. While last year’s Idol donation centres were 216, this year it will increase to 252 in number. Last year there were 206 containers for collecting the used puja flowers, this year they will be 256 in number. 42 tanks will be made on the 22 major centres for immersing the Idols.

The highest number of floral collection centres will be in the ward office area of Hadapsar-Mundhwa and Sinhagad Road. The civic body will distribute sodium bicarbonate to citizens free of cost to immerse Ganesh Idols made of plaster of Paris (PoP) in their houses as the chemical dissolves them in a few days. In Sinhagad Road area there will be 34, and 24 at Warje Karvenagar.

At Kasba Vishrambagh Wada area will have 39 Idol donation centres. Hadapsar Mundhwa – 36, followed by Sinhagad road – 25.

The Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar area will have the most immersion iron tanks – 77. Followed by Warje-Karvenagar – 71. The tanks will be available respectively at Kothrud-Bavdhan will have 67, Kondhwa-Yewalewadi will have 58, Kasba-Vishrambaug Wada will have 57, and 54 at Bibwewadi.
