Srinagar (J&K) – Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are now living a free life as per their wish as a result of abrogation of Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
On 5th August 2019, the Union Government took a striking decision to abrogate Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Sinha was talking to reporters as abrogation of Article 370 completed 4 years on 5th August 2023. After the abrogation of Article 370, the Union Government divided the erstwhile State of Jammu-Kashmir into two Union Territories of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh.
Sinha further said, ‘In the past, schools, colleges and businesses used to remain closed for around 150 days in a year due to strikes called by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists and separatists in Jammu and Kashmir. That time is now over. After the abrogation of Article 370, the common people of Jammu and Kashmir are now living as they wish. Street violence is over. Youngsters in Kashmir are now enjoying late night outings. People can walk in a fear-free environment at Polo View Market and Jhelum riverbank, recently renovated under the Smart City project. The dreams of the Kashmiri youth have taken wings and their contribution to nation building will be no less than anyone else’s. Last year, the administration started celebrating 5th August as ‘Corruption Free Day’ in Jammu and Kashmir. The public knows better than me that it is very important to treat this cancer of corruption’.
