Varanasi (UP) – The scientific survey of Gyanvapi mosque began at 7.45 a.m. on 4th August. The survey was conducted till 12 noon after which it was stopped for the afternoon namaz offering. The survey resumed after 3 p.m. and went on till 5 p.m. It will continue for the next few days. The survey was commenced by the Archaeology Department after the Allahabad High Court gave permission on 3rd August.
Gyanvapi campus is divided into 4 blocks. Cameras are installed everywhere. The entire area is under surveillance. All areas except the wazukhana (place for washing hands and feet before offering namaz) will be surveyed. Special attention is being given to the western wall of Gyanvapi.
61 members of the Archaeology Department have participated in the survey. Representatives of the Hindu Party were also present on this occasion. In the wake of the survey, a heavy Police force has been deployed in the area.
How is the scientific survey being conducted ?
1. The insides of the flooring and walls are being researched with the help of radio waves without any excavation.
2. The structure is being examined by carbon dating method (a method of determining how old a structure is).
3. The walls, the foundations of the Gyanvapi mosque, and the change in the colour of the soil are being examined.
