A teacher beat up students who came to class with a Tilak on their forehead in Indore, MP

  • Parents complain to the Principal
  • We were following the instructions of the District Collector – The School’s stance

Indore (Madhya Pradesh) –  In a school called the Bal Vigyan Shishu Vihar Higher Secondary School in Dhar Marg, a teacher beat up some of the students for wearing a Tilak on their foreheads. Hence, the parents complained to the principal of the school. The Principal however stated that they were simply following the orders of the DC.

The teacher named Padma Sisodia beat up 6-7 students and later expelled them from the school. When the parents came to know about this incident they stormed to the school. However, Principal Om Prakash and the concerned teacher did not pay any heed to them. They stated that there is no ban on applying the Tilak in school, but they do not want to promote any religion in their school. (Such is the state of these headmasters and teachers who do not understand the difference between piety and fanaticism ! If either of them had known the spiritual benefits of applying a Tilak then they would not have taken such a stand ! – Editor). The parents explained that before coming to school the students would go to the nearby temple and apply the Tilaks there.

Editorial Viewpoint

If some students had come to the school wearing a Burqa would the teacher have shown the same courage and beaten them up as well ? If she had dared to beat up such children she would have been threatened with calls for her beheading !
