We do feel sad about the Queen’s death, but…….

Queen Elizabeth II

Why are the illustrious critics of Indian democracy silent about the Britain’s democracy which supports and promotes dynasty ? It is normal if every Indian felt grieved on the death Queen Elizabeth II as one feels sad about anyone’s death in general, but owing to the impressions created on our mind that everything from the west is great and ideal, some Indians are grieving as strongly as if a great personality from India has passed away, on the death of the British Queen who kept us as slaves for 150 years !

It is appropriate that the British are grieved and are expressing their grief in various ways. It is natural for the British news channels and newspapers like ‘BBC’ and ‘The Guardian’ etc. to publish and show the history of this most esteemed royal dynasty. In a way, we can understand even the American media like ‘New York Times’, ‘HuffPost’, etc. giving such a huge coverage to this news. But is it logical or rational for the Indian media to compete with each other and handle this subject with the same intensity ?

An era of a significant personality in the world has come to an end. There is nothing wrong if discussions are held on the life of such a personality at the global level and to some extent, even in India which is quite appropriate from the viewpoint of getting information, but for the last two days, what the Indian media is upto, to maintain their TRP, is beyond understanding.

The news on the exact reasons for deep sorrow felt by an actress like Sushmita Sen on the Queen’s death; the report given to the Queen on all the happenings in Britain; the route to be taken by the Queen’s funeral cortege from the Buckingham Palace’; direct broadcast of the first speech of King Charles III, etc. are getting maximum coverage.

It is true that post-independence, the Indian media got the opportunity for the first time to cover the news of a non-Indian famous personality. Such topic was not discussed in the past among the last 3 – 4 generations because Queen Elizabeth reigned and was the Supreme Persona of Britain from 1952. The mortal remains of the 96-year-old queen will be interred according to Christian rites after 10 days. Hence, there is no doubt our media will continue to discuss this subject for the next whole week.

Unnecessary Anglicisation !

The excessive discussions in India about the death of the British Queen is a sign of intellectual subjugation of the Indians and consequently, Hindus. We cannot deny the possibility of our new generations start thinking about British royalty as an ideal monarchy. They might try to remember the names of British royals as the middle-aged Indians know the names of the Mughal invaders by heart. It will be quite amusing because many British citizens are against the Monarchy as per a survey conducted by the British Government.

These statistics have been given in the survey conducted in May 2022 and are available on their government’s website https://yougov.co.uk/. About 30% of the citizens are opposed to ‘Monarch Democracy’ which is a democracy that preserves monarchy. The opposition is from a few lakh people. In such a situation, why should Indians give so much importance to British royalty ? Moreover, the Indian Government has declared national mourning of one day on the demise of the British ‘Queen’ when the happening has absolutely no connection with India. In fact, a few staunch patriotic Indians feel that India should have been strong-minded and remained neutral. This will unnecessarily encourage Anglicisation. Such things bring subtle changes in the ideological perceptions of the society.

The British Royal Dynasty !

The British Treasury spends about Rs. 11,000 crores annually on maintaining the Royal Family which means that the money goes from the pockets of the British citizens. In India, some people make a lot of noise when even something minor takes place in connection with the minorities and claim it as a murder of Indian democracy. Why don’t these people feel that the huge expenditure on the British royal family from people’s money is also a murder of democracy in Britain though Britain is known as the creator of the modern democratic system ?

A sense of cultural nationalism is being generated in India. Some of the western media and politicians are not comfortable with the renewed awareness created towards the Indian traditions and her glorifying history and they are opposing it from every platform. Then, why should there be such a glorification of the old royal traditions ? Nobody is, however ready to say a word about the same. Our social structure is looked down upon and accused to be discriminatory, based on casteism although, in India, a tribal woman, a person from a backward community, or a Muslim can become the President, thus proving that there is no racism or discrimination. In Britain, however, it does exist and the British royal family is its living example. Therefore, instead of glorifying Queen’s death, it will be appropriate, as per the times, for Indian Hindus to show a mirror to Britain and the western world pointing out their double standards on this issue.
