Sriperumbudur (TN) – The local Administration has demolished the Sri Kanaka Kaleeswarar temple here, alleging that it was built on Government land. Devotees alleged, ‘The Administration did not even give us time to remove the Idols from the temple. The temple was demolished without any notice. The officials of the Revenue Department razed the temple, even as the devotees went to meet the District Collector for negotiation. Despite assuring the devotees that the sanctum sanctorum would not be demolished, the officials did so’. Hence, the devotees have decided to go to Court regarding this matter. The temple was run by the Tapovanam Charitable Trust.

The entire temple was razed in connivance with the Christian missionaries ! – Allegations of trustees and devotees
It is said that the sanctum sanctorum of this temple was built on 15% of the legally acquired land. Trustees and devotees said that this fact was ignored. Officials, in collusion with Christian missionaries, demolished the entire temple, even after promising to demolish only the fence wall and the food donation hall. (The Tamil Nadu Government will not even take note of this serious allegation. Therefore, the Central Government should investigate this and bring the truth before the people and take action against the culprits ! – Editor)

The temple and Tapovanam Trust were involved in preventing conversion in the region. Devout Hindu organisations have vowed to get justice through legal means and to restore the temple.
Why the Government, which behaves in an autocratic manner on the temple land, does not tolerate the temple on Government land ? – BJP
BJP legal wing secretary Aswathaman condemned the incident and questioned when the Government is taking over temple lands with impunity to build Government offices/quarters why it won’t tolerate temples built on Government land. He further said, ‘While temple funds are used to open colleges and schools where even non-Hindus are employed, shouldn’t the Government use its money and properties for Hindus as well ? When Collector offices and Police quarters are built on temple land despite the Court’s objection, why can’t temples be built on Government land ?’
