Targeting anti-India Khalistanis in the US could become a criminal offence !

New Bill introduced in the US Congress

Washington, D.C. (US) – The US is preparing to introduce a new law to protect Khalistanis living in the US and terrorists from other countries. Under the proposed law, any attempt by foreign governments to intimidate or threaten alleged ‘political dissidents’ and ‘activists’ living in the US would be classified as a criminal offence. The legislation has been named the ‘Stop Transnational Repression Act of 2026’. The US is bringing in such a law at a time when tensions have arisen in its relations with India over Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

Who introduced the Bill ?

The Bill has been sponsored by Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff and Republican Congressman John Curtis. If enacted, it would be the first time that transnational repression is specifically recognised as a criminal offence in the US. This would expand the jurisdiction of the US Department of Justice and the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) to investigate and prosecute foreign attempts to suppress opposition on American soil.

Under the Bill, persons found guilty could face up to an additional 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to ₹95 lakh, in addition to the punishment imposed for other offences.

The US has accused India of plotting the assassination of Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun through an Indian operative; however, the alleged plot was foiled in time. India rejected these allegations and initiated an investigation into the matter.
