Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) – A Hindu man, under the impression that the body handed over to him was that of his sister-in-law, cremated the body of a Muslim lady as per Hindu rituals. Both the women were victims of Covid-19.

Shilabai and Nafisa Begum had been undergoing treatment at the famed Hamidia Hospital when they died. The families of both were called to take the bodies. Shilabai’s brother-in-law was handed a dead body after being shown to him, which he took and cremated. On the other hand, When Nafisa Begum’s body was shown to her son, he claimed that the body was not his mother’s. Later, when the hospital summoned Shilabai’s brother-in-law again to show the body, it came to light that she was the deceased Shilabai. Due to this incident, Shilabai’s brother-in-law apologized to Nafisa Begum’s son. Nafisa Begum’s son said that he will file a Police complaint against the hospital. The hospital has suspended two employees. Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Jiten Shukla said that the bones of Nafisa Begum will be given to her son for burial.
