Dalit youth files PIL in Supreme Court, urges for legislation to end quota benefits for SC/ST creamy layer

Neemuch (M.P.) – Vikram Bagde, a dalit youth from Madhya Pradesh, has filed a PIL in the Supreme Court urging for legislation to block the reservation given to well to do candidates among the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in education and jobs. Supreme Court has admitted this petition on Feb 2. The PIL urges the Supreme Court to enable people from SC/ST category to voluntarily give up the benefits of reservation. This PIL is expected to come up for hearing next month. Vikram is a first year LLB student and will appear by himself. Vikram told that he doesn’t oppose the reservation for eligible lawmakers but asks that their family members be prevented from availing benefits in education and jobs. He himself did not avail any reservation after his 12th exams and even tried to surrender his caste certificate.
