New Delhi – Against the backdrop of the controversy triggered by the leak of the question paper for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the country’s largest medical entrance examination, weeks of intense protests and mounting pressure from all sections of society, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post on the afternoon of 25th July. He submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. From the very beginning, the Cockroach Janta Party had demanded Pradhan’s resignation and remained firm on its stand. Pradhan resigned even before the third round of talks between the Government and the Cockroach Janta Party.
A visionary education system is the foundation of a strong nation!
Pradhan also shared a copy of his resignation letter on X. In it, he stated:
1. My young friends, for more than four decades I have dedicated myself to students, teaching and educational reforms. I have always believed that a strong, inclusive and visionary education system forms the foundation of a strong nation.
2. I deeply respect the aspirations, emotions and legitimate expectations of the country’s youth. Fulfilling the dreams of India’s younger generation has always been a moral commitment throughout my political and social life. I am grateful to the Prime Minister for giving me the opportunity to serve the nation under his visionary leadership.
3. Irregularities were detected in the NEET examination held on 3rd May 2026. The Government of India immediately took cognisance of the matter, handed over the investigation to the CBI, cancelled the examination and announced the date for the re-examination. It was also decided that, from next year onwards, the examination would be conducted as a computer-based test.
4. Throughout this entire process, our highest priority was to ensure that the examination was conducted smoothly for more than 20 lakh students. This was achieved through a ‘whole-of-government coordinated approach’.

He stated that he had accepted responsibility for the matter from the very first day and had never attempted to distance himself from the situation. He also said that the ‘examination mafia’ would not be allowed to destroy the future of meritorious students and that no student would be subjected to injustice.
