Modi Govt treated the protesting students as ‘enemies of the nation’ : Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi – Instead of recognizing students who are demanding accountability and educational reforms as the inheritors of the future, the Modi government treated them as the ‘enemies of the nation’. While students are taking to the streets with their rightful demands, the government is responding to their courage with cowardice and wanton cruelty, alleged Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi. She made these allegations in an article titled ‘An education system’s collapse, young India’s trauma’ in an English newspaper.

Gandhi further wrote,

1. Students across the country are peacefully protesting against the leaking of exam papers and the deteriorating education system. Their demands are clear – the government should ensure accountability and bring about reforms in education.

2. The Modi government has reduced the share of school education in the total budget by 50 percent and the share of higher education by 33 percent. In the last 12 years, the government has closed an estimated 1 lakh government schools, while opening 43 thousand private schools. Most of these are run by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and its affiliated organizations. (Gandhi is upset about the opening of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh operated schools – Editor).

3. Youth do not get good job opportunities after completing their education. Despite this, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan rejected the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee and refused to resign even after such major incidents. (Congress was in power for 6 decades. Why doesn’t Gandhi tell us what it did during that time? – Editor).

4. Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) used lathicharge, tear gas and pellet guns to suppress the protesting students. Many innocent students were injured in this violence.

Editorial Perspective

• The fact is that Sonia Gandhi, who plays politics over student issues in this way, can never feel compassion for the students.
• Attacking students is completely wrong. However, when Congress, communists, Muslim organizations, and anti-national elements were trying to turn the student movement violent, the government had to stop it.
• O’ students, injustice has certainly been done to you; but understand that Congress is playing politics over it.
