In the United States, Generation Z males are becoming more religious than females

  • Shift observed since the conservative Republican Party returned to power

  • (Generation Z refers to those born during the 15-year period from 1997 to 2011.)

Washington (United States) – It is often said that women are more religious than men. However, this perception is changing in the United States. According to Gallup’s 2024–25 analysis, 42 per cent of young American men said that religion was ‘very important’ in their lives, compared with 29 per cent of young women. For the first time, young men have overtaken young women on this measure. This shift has emerged for the first time in the past two years. The reason is the return of the conservative Republican Party to power. Its ‘MAGA’ (Make America Great Again) campaign is centred on ‘White Supremacist Christianity’ (the belief in the supremacy of White Christians).

1. According to experts, the trend is being driven not only by faith but also by identity politics and conservative ideology. Young men are increasingly viewing religion as part of their ideological identity.

2. According to the Public Religion Research Institute, 29 per cent of young women did not identify with any religion in 2013. By 2025, this figure had risen to 43 per cent. This is attributed to male-dominated attitudes and discrimination within religious institutions.

3. At the same time, traditional views about the role of women and the limited role given to women in religious institutions have led many young women to begin distancing themselves from religion.

64 per cent of young Indian women are more religious !

According to a 2021 report by the Pew Research Center, 64 per cent of Indian women pray daily, compared with 56 per cent of Indian men.
