Goa CM assures that objectionable writing will be removed by next year
Panaji (Goa) – While celebrating the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, founder of Hindavi Swarajya, a disturbing news was revealed – Goa State Education Board’s textbook for Higher Secondary School contains matter that insults Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
“Hindu Janajagruti Samiti strongly condemns this. No Hindu will tolerate such distorted history of great kings of our Motherland. The Goa Government should immediately withdraw this book, else Hindus will take to the streets in protest”, said Dr. Manoj Solanki (Goa State Coordinator of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti).
Responding to HJS’ demand, Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant declared that the inappropriate matter will be deleted from the next academic year.
A supplement had been added by the Goa Government to the textbook of History for Standard XI under the title – ‘History of Goa’.
The supplement narrated that Chhatrapati Shivaji attacked the Bardez Taluka in Goa for three consecutive days, looted villages, burnt them down, drowned children and women and killed some. All such matter is completely false. Such writings are a great offence, intended to malign the character of Chhatrapati Shivaraya. He always behaved as per the adage of ‘Par Stri Mata’ and had even sent enemy’s women back to them honourably. Dr. Manoj Solanki urged that serious action be taken against the author of the text as well as the authorities who are involved in including it in the curriculum.
