Muslims attack Hindus in Kutch, Gujarat, over a minor dispute

  • Power supply to the village disrupted before stone-pelting

  • Attempt made to run over Hindus with a four-wheeler

  • Case registered against 23 persons

Bhuj (Gujarat) – On the night of 30 May, residents of the Muslim-majority neighbouring village of Varnora attacked Hindus in Raidhanpar village in Kutch district following a minor dispute. Several Hindu youths and Police personnel were injured in the incident. Police have registered a case against 23 Muslims. According to the Police complaint, the attackers first disrupted the village’s electricity supply and then carried out a planned attack.

Based on a complaint filed by local Hindu youth Darshan Bardiya, Madhapar Police have registered a case against 23 Muslims under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Pre-planned conspiracy to attack Hindus

According to complainant Darshan Bardiya, the incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. on 30 May. He and his friends were sitting outside the village when a group of Muslim youths from neighbouring Varnora village arrived there. They abused and threatened the Hindus, saying, “Why are you looking at us? If you look again, we will thrash you.” This verbal altercation soon turned into a physical clash.

When Hindu villagers gathered in opposition to the confrontation, a four-wheeler approached at high speed with the intention of running them over. The villagers narrowly escaped. Thereafter, the Muslims called more people to the spot. Soon, a large number of Muslim youths from Varnora arrived carrying sticks, pipes, stones, and other weapons. According to the complaint, the mob first cut the wires on an electricity pole, plunging the entire village into darkness. They then began pelting stones at Hindus gathered at the village entrance and at their homes. Several Hindus were injured in the attack, and one Hindu youth sustained serious injuries. Police vehicles were also reportedly attacked during the incident.

Hindu organisation alleges a ‘planned conspiracy’

Raghuveer Singh Jadeja, a leader of a Hindu youth organisation, stated that the attack was the result of a “jihadi mindset”. He said that disabling electricity and CCTV cameras before targeting a Hindu village indicated a pre-planned conspiracy. He demanded a thorough investigation into Varnora village and alleged that it had become a “jihadi centre”.

Police action

Kutch West Superintendent of Police Vikas Sunda said that Police acted promptly and registered a case the same night against 23 individuals under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The accused include Salim Mamad Mokha, Abu Sufiyan Mokha, Sahil Siddiqui Mokha, Abbas Mamad Mokha, Sameer Abdul Memon, Razak Siddiqui Mer, Firoz Razak Memon, Shoaib Siddiqui Mokha, Aman Karim Memon, Akram Jusab Memon, Majid Ibrahim Kevra, Hanif Ramju Kevra, Hanif Aziz Memon, Umar Aziz Memon, Rehan Hanif Khalifa, Ibrahim Mamad Memon, Dawood Ibrahim Kevra, Ejaz Umar Mer, Sameer Aziz Memon, Aftab Hanif Kevra, Azad Mamad Kevra, Altaf Latif Kevra, and Mamad Lakha Mokha.

Editorial Perspective

  • Muslim mob attacks a Hindu village in this manner. Is Kutch in India or in Pakistan? Hindus do not expect such incidents to occur when the BJP is in power in the state.
  • According to the laws of numbers and nature, those with greater numerical strength generally exercise dominance. By this logic, while Hindus face persecution in Islamic countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh because they are minorities there, they continue to face attacks even in Hindu-majority India. Those carrying out such attacks may be a majority across the border, but they are a minority in India. This raises the question: are Hindus remaining passive? Such a situation is shameful for Hindus.
