The greatness of Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale as described by Paratpar Guru Pande Maharaj

Once, I said to Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale, “We are unable to identify Your true form (Your Divine Incarnation); it is indeed difficult for us”.  Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale simply smiled sweetly. I would always think that He is an Incarnation. I ought to be able to perceive His true form.

Pande Maharaj stating, ‘Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale is the Vedapurush (Embodiment of the Vedas)’ !

Paratpar Guru Pande Maharaj had memorised numerous Shlokas from the Shrimadbhagawadgeeta and the Vedas. While conversing on spiritual topics, He would recite chapters from it to Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale. On one such occasion, Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale said to Him, “Maharaj, what extensive study of the Shrimadbhagawadgeeta and Vedas You have undertaken ! You possess such vast knowledge. Conversely, I have never studied them in this manner and know nothing about them”. To this, Paratpar Guru Pande Maharaj replied, “You need not study the Vedas. You are the Vedapurush Yourself. Whatever You speak transforms into the Vedas !”

Saints at a high spiritual level such as Paratpar Guru Pande Maharaj and Yogatadnya Param Pujya Dadaji Vaishampayan had truly recognised Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale’s original Divine nature. Paratpar Guru Pande Maharaj was a follower of Jnanmarg (Path of Knowledge). He and Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale used to converse over the phone. Given here are some instances where He highlighted the greatness of Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale.

1. Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale’s state of sleep and Shri Vishnu reclining on the Sheshanag in the Ksheersagar

Even at the age of 90, Paratpar Guru Pande Maharaj remained full of enthusiasm from early morning until night. Once, Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale said to Him, “Maharaj, despite being active all day at this age, You remain so energetic ! I, however, often find myself asleep due to fatigue”.

To this, He replied, “It is essential for God to sleep. Even Sheshashayi Shri Vishnu is reclining on the Sheshanag (Divine serpent on which the Earth rests) in the Ksheersagar (The Celestial ocean). This world functions on the strength of the energy generated during God’s state of sleep. If God were to remain in a state of constant wakefulness, this world would neither be able to withstand nor sustain His Chaitanya (Divine consciousness) and Shakti (Divine Energy). This example made me realise how beautifully Paratpar Guru Pande Maharaj described Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale.

2. Shrikrushna expounding the Shrimadbhagawadgeeta in the Dwaparyug, and Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale explaining in the Kaliyug how to put it into practice through the process of removing personality defects and ego

Mr Atul Pawar

While describing the greatness of Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale, Paratpar Guru Pande Maharaj used to say, “In the Dwaparyug, when Bhagawan incarnated as Shrikrushna, He expounded the Shrimadbhagawadgeeta to all of humanity.

Now, in the Kaliyug, Bhagawan has incarnated in the form of Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale. In this Incarnation, He has taught us how to put the Shrimadbhagawadgeeta into practice by implementing the process of removing personality defects and ego.

Shrimadbhagawadgeeta teaches human beings not to have expectations; however, if the tendency to have expectations, which is an aspect of the ego, exists within us, then Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale has taught us how to remove it. This highlights Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale’s greatness.

  • Subtle : The gross (physical) aspects of an individual are the five sense organs - the nose, ears, eyes, tongue and skin. These five senses, beyond the mind and intellect, are ‘subtle’. These ‘subtle’ sensations are felt by some people who have advanced in their spiritual practice. Various Scriptures contain references to subtle knowledge.
  • Seeing, hearing in the subtle, etc. (Receiving knowledge through the five subtle sense organs) : The subtle vision of some seekers is awakened; meaning, they can perceive what the physical eyes cannot see; some seekers can hear sounds or words in the subtle.
  • Individual spiritual experiences of seekers published in Sanatan Prabhat are according to the Principle - ‘Where there is bhav (Spiritual emotion), there is God’. It is not that every individual will have similar experiences.
